Internships in the Field of Comparative Regionalism

UNU-CRIS currently seeks applications for four to six research internship positions in the field of comparative regionalism. The positions will have staggered starting dates and last between three to six consecutive months.

The internships will be supervised by Frank Mattheis, coordinator of the Regions and Cities Governance Lab (Re-LAB) cluster.

The internships will ideally take place at our premises in Bruges on a full-time basis, however there are possibilities to partly undertake them remotely and/or via flexible working arrangements.

Responsibilities

As a research intern, you will be part of a dedicated team of international researchers. You will be assigned tasks related to:

  • Scientific and policy outputs of research projects associated with the Regions and Cities Governance Lab (Re-LAB);
  • Collection and analysis of empirical material on regional governance institutions;
  • Preparation and coordination of UNU-CRIS events, such as public seminars, international conferences and the next edition of the annual doctoral school.

Selection criteria

Applicants should:

  • be enrolled in, or have recently completed within two years, a graduate (second university degree or equivalent) or postgraduate degree programme (specialized master’s or doctoral level).
  • have a strong academic record and a demonstrated interest in research in the field of comparative regionalism.
  • possess relevant qualitative or quantitative analytical skills.
  • have good time management and organisational capacities and be able to deal autonomously with different tasks at the same time.
  • be a proactive team-player.
  • be fluent in oral and written English. Additional language skills are an asset (particularly official UN languages).
  • be committed to the mission of the UN and to UNU’s mandate.

Financial provisions

UNU-CRIS provides a monthly stipend to cover living expenses. The amount is adjusted every month according to UNDP scales (approximately 900 Euro per month for internships undertaken in Belgium). In case of remote work, the remuneration rate will be adjusted to the home country of the research intern.
