Biographical Statement 

Abbas Musa was a research intern at UNU-CRIS. Abbas holds a first-class bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Kano, Nigeria. In his research project, he analysed the impact of illicit financial flows on the economic development of Nigeria using an ARDL approach. In a later stage he enrolled in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree (EMJMD) programme to study Economics of Globalisation and European Integration (EGEI) across three Universities in Europe, in which he learns on-demand skills such as Regional Integration Analysis.

Regarding his professional experience, he worked as a Research Analyst at Meristem Securities Limited in Lagos, Nigeria, where he performed an analysis on Macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, Interest rate, and CPI. His primary duties were to provide coverage of 7 Nigerian Banks and provide fundamental analysis to guide investment decisions.

During his internship at UNU-CRIS, Abbas worked under the supervision of Samuel Standaert and Ilse Ruyssen to test the validity of the recently computed annual migration bilateral country-level data. He also aided in the gravity model estimation using the migration data.
