Biographical Statement

Apra Jain is a Communications Intern at UNU-CRIS. Working closely with the Policy and Communications Officer, Andrew Dunn, her core responsibilities are centered on language editing of the academic outputs and optimizing the institute’s visibility and impact by identifying and leveraging effective platforms for sharing the research initiatives.

Apra holds a Bachelor's and Master's in International Relations from Ritsumeikan University, Japan. She graduated with her second Master's in Conflict and Development Studies at Ghent University. For her master’s thesis, Apra uncovered the varied reasons behind Ukrainian migration to Belgium since the Russian invasion of 2022 through fieldwork and the application of the conflict model of migration.

Before coming to Belgium, Apra worked as an intern at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in India, at Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) in Germany, and as a Research Assistant, Writing Tutor, and Teaching Assistant at Ritsumeikan University in Japan. In this way, she gained practical experience and discovered her passion for research and working in intercultural and interdisciplinary environments.

Her internship at UNU-CRIS, made possible through the support of the Flanders Trainee Programme, aligns with her ambition to utilize her research and soft skills and her political science background to work in a multilateral organization. Apra is driven to expand her comprehension of communication affairs as well as contribute to the research output at the university. She believes that her tenure at UNU-CRIS will serve as a stepping stone toward the realization of her professional ambitions.
