Arla Mannersuo was, at the time of her internship, working towards a Master’s Degree in Political Science at Universiteit Leiden with a specialisation in the dynamics of international policy-making. Prior to commencing her graduate studies, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies with honours from Universiteit Leiden.
Her previous research interests included the root causes and consequences of intrastate conflict and sectarian politics in the Middle East and North Africa region. Amid her internship, she focussed on migration policy in the EU and the politics of the global refugee regime.
During her three-month internship at UNU-CRIS, Arla joined The Role of Regions in Global Governance research programme and supported research activities focussed on the implementation of assisted return migration programmes in the EU Member States, under the supervision of Professor Ine Lietaert.
