David J Devlaeminck, a Canadian national, is Associate Professor at the School of Law, Chongqing University located in Chongqing, China where he conducts teaching and research on international environmental law with a focus on transboundary water resources. He has published widely on the subject, including his monograph, Reciprocity and China’s Transboundary Waters: The Law of International Watercourses (Routledge 2021). Furthermore, he is Co-Chair of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) Asia-Pacific Interest Group (2024-2027), a Founding Affiliate of the International Water Law Academy, Wuhan University (China), and a member of the International Water Resources Association. He is also editorial board member of the Review of European, Comparative and International Environmental Law RECIEL and for the Springer book series Water Security in a New World.
David began his associate research fellowship at UNU-CRIS in September 2024. During his associate research fellowship, David will work in close collaboration with Nidhi Nagabhatla within the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster. David will primarily work on aspects of regional integration related to transboundary water resources. In particular he will contribute a policy brief on ASEAN’s transboundary water resources under international law, and collaborate on an edited collection on interdisciplinary water education, among other initiatives.
