Biographical Statement 

Emiel Buffel obtained a Master's Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of Antwerp in 2019. His Master’s dissertation was about the effect of democratic change on inclusive economic growth in Chile. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and has an Advanced Bachelor in International Business Management, both at the University College of Ghent. Emiel is currently enrolled in the Advanced Master programme at the Institute of Development Policy (University of Antwerp) where he follows the Master in Governance and Development.

Emiel interned as an assistant of the Flemish economic representative in Chile with Flanders Investment and Trade in 2017. From September 2019 until February 2020, Emiel participated in a voluntary project in Peru where he analysed the impact of the projects of the NGO Intiwawa on households.

At UNU-CRIS, Emiel focussed on the nexus between sub-state regions and foreign trade policy under the supervision of Philippe De Lombaerde until February 2021.
