Biographical Statement 

Eric Maertens is an Associate Research Fellow at UNU-CRIS (Bruges) since 2007 and member of the International Scientific Advisory Committee of the Institut de Socio-Economie des Entreprises et des Organisations (I.S.E.O.R., Lyon, France).

International Labour Organization (I.L.O. Geneva). Eric Maertens was Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, responsible for Technical Cooperation, the Regions and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ILO). He joined the I.L.O.  as a junior professional and, further on, as expert in manpower analysis and training, with a first 8 years assignment in Latin America. His career at the ILO Training Centre included the responsibility of a joint research programme with the Control Data corporation on computer-based education(CBE) , the management of the Centre’s computer training applications section, the management of the Latin-American desk and of the Program Development Service, with an overall responsibility for the constituents’ needs analysis, the follow-up to the Centre’s programme and budget cycle and its external relations, including the resources mobilization strategy and donors negotiations.

In his position as an executive Assistant, his functions included also the follow-up to the strategic partnership with the European Union, the liaison with ILO headquarters Departments and liaison with the Governing Body of the ILO and of the Turin Centre.
