The turn of the century saw the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations transition from an agenda of traditional peacekeeping to multidimensional peacebuilding. Central to this new holistic peacebuilding model, was the inclusion of a gender perspective in the DPKO's mandates and activity on the ground in post-conflict societies. To this end, the October 2000 United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 solidified the Women, Peace and Security agenda, which was set to be implemented in all peacebuilding missions.

Join us as we welcome Marvi Memon, former Federal Minister and chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Pakistan’s largest social safety net, to discuss her recent book Gender, Pakistan and UN Peacekeeping, which explores the link between gender and conflict and proposes a gender-responsive agenda to overcome the disparity between policy and practice in protecting women in fragile environments.
