‘Promoting Peace’ in Theory and Practice:  The role of Conflict Resolution, Diplomacy and Mediation 

 

Vesalius College of Global Affairs (VUB),  in cooperation with the United Nations University on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) and the Global Governance Institute (GGI), invites you to a one-day intensive graduate student workshop on “Promoting Peace in Theory and Practice: The Role of Diplomacy and Mediation”.

Held in the Context of the Foundational Course ‘Theories and Applied Issues of Global Peace, Security and Strategic Studies’ of the MA in Global Peace, Security and Strategic Studies at Vesalius College the seminar will offer an overview of the theoretical diversity and core conceptual foundations of peace studies as well as two intensive sessions by practitioners on applied issues of conflict resolution, diplomacy and mediation.

Speakers include Professor Joachim Koops (Professor of IA at Vesalius College of Global Affairs and Director of the  Global Governance Institute, Brussels), Holger Osterrieder (German Diplomat, Expert in the EU EEAS’ Conflict Prevention, Mediation and Peacebuilding Section and former Deputy Head of Mission for UN Operations in Mali and Mongolia as well as Adjunct Professor of International Affairs and Diplomatic Practice at Vesalius College) and Halil Kosumi (United Nations Liaison Office for Peace and Security, UNLOPS and former Project Officer with UNDP, Kosovo as well as OSCE/UNMIK).

The seminar is primarily organised for VeCo graduate students, but a limited number of places is also open to students from the College of Europe, members of UNU-CRIS and outstanding Honours Students of VeCo.
