Sina Bio, Herbert
Herbert Sina Bio is a PhD student at the University of Abomey-Calavi. He holds a Master's degree in socio-anthropology from the University of Abomey-Calavi (Republic of Benin), as well as a Master's degree in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Abomey-Calavi (republic of Benin). He wrote his Master's thesis of Socio-anthropology on cross-border organised crime, focusing on the factors behind the emergence of terrorism in northern Benin. Herbert was also an exchange student at Linköping University (Sweden), where he took a semester-long master's course on cross-sectoral migration studies. His research interests include international migration, cross-border security and English phonetics and phonology.
During his research internship at UNU-CRIS, Herbert worked under the supervision of Rossella Marino. He focused his research on cross-border governance practices and their impact on free movement of persons. He used a qualitative ethnographic method to collect data from key actors at the Seme border.
In addition to his academic experience, Herbert has worked on a number of relevant research projects that have given him the skills needed to be an effective researcher. Herbert is co-author of an article entitled "The Mask of Violent Extremist Groups in the Communes of Materi and Cobly in Benin: Towards a Sociology of Socio-Political Fragilities”. He is also co-author of the R.E.M.S. report entitled 'The Economy of Inclusion, and Exclusion”, written by students of Master’s programme in Ethnic and Migration Studies at Linköping University (Sweden). Herbert is also a freelance translator and interpreter (English-French-English) and Virtual English Language Coach.
