UNU-CRIS is collaborating with the education program ‘International policies the nexus and water security for climate change and participatory research’  with Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, Bolivia :https://www.umsa.bo/

The program is meant to train water professionals in the region and is coordinated by Dr Nidhi Nagabhatla. Several colleagues from UNU and other regional and national institutions are involved: UNU-CRIS PhD Fellow Padmi Ranasinghe as well as UNU-CRIS Visiting Research Fellow Andrea Ribeiro Hoffmann.

The scope of the program covers

  1. The water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus approach that emphasizes the interdependence of these sectors to identify mutually beneficial policies that balance competing demands for limited water resources in the face of climate change.
  2. International frameworks like the Paris Agreement, Sendai Framework, and Sustainable Development Goals that recognize the critical links between water management, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development1.
  3. Climate-resilient water management as a mechanism for coherence among global frameworks, requiring increased investment in hydrological data, institutions, governance, and stakeholder participation.
  4. The NEXUS APPOACH that highlights sustainable RESOURCES (water, food, energy) availability and efficient water use as key priorities, supporting research and innovation projects to improve water-related adaptation strategies.

Participatory approaches and stakeholder engagement as key in natural resources /environmental management policies exemplified by SDGs and the need for the development of integrated environmental governance and climate change adaptation strategies with local and regional stakeholders.
