Bouckaert, Reinhilde

Reinhilde Bouckaert is currently a visiting research fellow at UNU-CRIS.

Reinhilde Bouckaert holds a PhD in Public Administration and Management where she focused on the changing relationship between the EU and the MENA region in the context of the energy transition. Further, she holds a Master Degree in Political Science from the University of Louvain (UCL) where she focused on International Relations and Geopolitics. In her dissertation she investigated how renewable energy could improve the energy security of the EU. At Ghent University she followed a Master after Master in Conflict and Development for which she conducted a three months research participating in the EU CHERLA project in Peru. At the University College in Ghent, she studied Business Administration where she wrote a dissertation on the external cost of transport. During this study she stayed for three months in Norway as an Erasmus exchange student and completed an internship at the Belgian Embassy in Dublin. At the Institute for European Studies she followed a postgraduate certificate in Civilization, European History, Institutions and Decision-making.

Currently she works as an expert on critical materials at the Federal Institute for Sustainable Development. Before she worked at UNU-CRIS on the PADIRE project - Parliamentary Deliberation in Inter-Regional Relations: an Analysis of Climate Change Debates in the EU’s Parliamentary Assemblies with the ACP, the Mediterranean, Latin America and the Eastern Neighbourhood Regions. Also, she worked for several years as an energy and climate analyst advising the Federal Minister of Energy and Climate and the Permanent Representative of Belgium to the EU. During this function, Reinhilde continued improving her knowledge on climate change and energy via following relevant subjects of a MSc in Complementary Studies in Economics at Ghent University and Environmental Studies at the Open University in the UK.
