Dr. Iroulo, Lynda

Lynda Chinenye Iroulo is is an Associate Research Fellow at UNU-CRIS. She is an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University in Qatar and teaches African Political Thought, International Organisations and Race in International Relations. Her research interests lie in decolonial international relations, the design of international and regional organizations, African regional integration, and Africa in global politics.

Lynda holds a BA in History and International Studies, an MA in History from Babcock University in Nigeria, and a PhD in International Relations with expertise in International Organisations – African Regionalism from the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transregional Studies (BGTS) in the Free University of Berlin, Germany.

Before joining Georgetown University in Qatar, Lynda was a member of the Global Governance Unit at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) from 2015 to 2019 and a postdoctoral fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) from 2020 to 2021. She is a non-resident fellow of the African Policy Research Institute (APRI) and an associate at GIGA. She was a visiting fellow at the South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA) in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2017.

Recent publications include a special issue on Theorizing Africa’s International Relations and a book chapter with Tobias Lenz on Global Theories of Regionalism. Lynda is working on a book project entitled Institution Building in a Multi-Actor Postcolonial Region: How the African Union Navigates Diverse Demands (forthcoming). She is also working on an edited volume entitled Introduction to African Regional Organizations (Oxford University Press, forthcoming). Lynda has been invited on occasion to provide policy inputs for governments. She has appeared in media interviews with Deutsche Welle, Expresso Das Ilhas, Le Point, Nederlands Dagblad, Tagesschau, and Augsburger Allgemeine.
