Hirvonen, Pasi
Dr. Hirvonen visited UNU-CRIS from late April to early May 2023 in relation to his Erasmus+ staff exchange. During his visit, Dr Hirvonen worked together with Professor Luk Van Langenhove under the UNTRAD cluster. His work focused on civil science and civil engagement in scientific research in relation to science diplomacy
Prior to this new visiting period, Dr. Pasi Hirvonen was a postdoctoral research fellow at UNU-CRIS. Previously, he worked as a university lecturer of Innovation Management in the Business School at University of Eastern Finland. At UNU-CRIS, he worked on a research project funded by The Finnish Work Environment Fund focussing on public involvement and stakeholder collaborations in neuroscience research. This project aimed to explore and analyse how neuroscience researchers and key stakeholders understand and construct public and patient engagement as a part of their scientific work. By strengthening the international research network linked to the development of academic work, this project will provide new insights to the opportunities of integrating co-research into neuroscience research.
Dr. Hirvonen is a part of the Neuro-Impact and Innovation research team at the University of Eastern Finland. This research team focuses on the management and organisation of brain health research. More specifically, the research team explores how research impact and innovation are achieved through collaborative research strategies that engage neuroscientists with their stakeholders. The team produces new knowledge on collaborative and co-creative research processes and outcomes, especially how these are organized, managed, evaluated, and prioritised in the context of basic, translational and clinical brain health research.
Dr. Hirvonen is a specialist in Positioning Theory and qualitative working life studies. In his doctoral dissertation he examined discursive positioning dynamics in management teams utilising and developing the starting points of Positioning Theory. His key research areas are qualitative small group studies, interaction studies, narrative research, and micro-cultural organization studies.
He was part of UNTRAD (Unit on Non-Traditional Diplomacy), coordinated by Luk Van Langenhove.
