Fonseca, Carlos

Carlos Fonseca was a research intern at the Digital Governance Cluster, supervised by PhD fellow Nadia Tjahja and Prof. Dr. Jamal Shahin. In particular, he  was working on the project “The contribution of global and regional multistakeholder mechanisms in improving global governance (GREMLIN)”, which is a collaboration between UNU-CRIS, VUB and the Centre for EU Studies at Ghent University. 

Before joining the Digital Governance Cluster, Carlos was a research intern for six months at the Regions and Cities Governance Lab (Re-LAB), under the supervision of Dr. Frank Mattheis. As the Re-LAB focuses on research on the institutional dynamics of regions, he centred his research on regionalisms in Latin America and Europe. 

Carlos holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business from the Universidad Católica de Pereira Colombia and a master's degree in Global Studies & EU from the University of Salerno Italy. Following these studies, he was awarded a full scholarship to study at the College of Europe in Natolin, where he obtained a Master of Arts in the European Interdisciplinary Studies with a major in EU and in the world. In his master's thesis he analysed the phenomenon of overlapping regionalism in the European human rights regime, taking the European Union and the Council of Europe as case studies.
