LoTempio, Jonathan

Jonathan LoTempio Jr was a Visiting Research Fellow at UNU-CRIS. He worked for the UNTRAD Unit in close collaboration with Luk Van Langenhove. Jonathan was a PhD Candidate at the George Washington University in Washington DC, where he conducted research on high-quality human genomics and data sharing with a focus on the political and ethical concerns of both of those facets of science.  At the George Washington University he worked under the supervision of Professor Eric Vilain.  He was also an affiliated researcher with the CNRS-France Epigenetics, Data, and Politics International Research Laboratory and the Institut Nationale pour la Recherche Biomedical in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

As a Fulbright Schuman fellow, Jonathan was affiliated with the Technology and Social Transformation Research Group at the Institute for Advanced Studies led by Mag. Dr. Erich Griessler in Vienna in addition to UNU-CRIS. He was working on open science, COVID-19 data sharing, science diplomacy, and responsible research and innovation under that grant.

Jonathan LoTempio holds a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Rochester in New York, where he conducted research on genomic replication, repair, and stability. He spent three years as a scientific programme analyst at the US National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in Bethesda, Maryland, where he worked on the implementation and management of large-scale human genomics and human microbiome science programmes. There he began an ongoing collaboration with staff in the History of Genomics Program at NHGRI.
