Abstract:

What is the role of the regional organizations in the fight against the climate change? What are the key axes of disagreement in the climate change agenda in the EU and in Latin America and Caribbean, and their drivers? How to foster consensus? This presentation about the ongoing research project ‘Green politics and policies in the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean regional organizations’ discusses these questions and explores the possibilities of further engagement of regional multilateral fora as complementary to global level commitments, from a perspective of comparative regionalism. The presentation includes preliminary work on a first case study from the area of sustainable management of natural resources (forests), and the ‘EU deforestation regulation’. The project aims to contribute to the discussions of the COP30, to take place in November 2025, in Belém do Pará, Brazil, in the middle of the Amazon forest.
