Biographical Statement

During his PhD Fellowship at UNU-CRIS, Stijn Salden will work under the supervision of Glenn Rayp within the Economic Interactions’ Cluster. Stijn will primarily work on the impact of preferential trade liberalisation on environmental outcomes, focussing on the consequences for non-member countries, the so-called trade diversion effects. In the first step of this research, he aims to improve the methods that are currently used to identify trade diversion effects, while relying on recent advances in the gravity and econometrics literature. Subsequently, he will use these innovations to re-examine the impact of trade liberalisation on global environmental outcomes. Stijn holds a Master’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Taxation from Ghent University. He is also assistant for the International Economics research group in Ghent.
