Biographical Statement

Sil Katrien Maslov Lescrauwaet was a research intern at UNU-CRIS, contributing to the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster under the supervision of Nidhi Nagabhatla. She recently completed a Master’s in Conflict and Development Studies at Ghent University, specializing in environmental sustainability, political ecology, and just transitions.

Supported by the Flanders Trainee Programme, during her internship, Sil primarily focussed on coastal resilience and climate adaptation, particularly through the Seaweed and Coastal Resilience Initiative in collaboration with SAMS. She contributed to research on blue economy innovations, disaster risk management, and climate adaptation strategies, assessing the role of seaweed farming in coastal ecosystem resilience.

Additionally, she engaged in research on the Migration, Climate, and Health nexus, focussing on climate-induced migration patterns in Latin America and South Asia. Her research aimed to strengthen the understanding of climate-conflict-migration intersections and health vulnerabilities in these regions.

Through her internship at UNU-CRIS, Sil seeked to bridge academic research with actionable insights on sustainability, climate adaptation, environmental justice, and migration, contributing to interdisciplinary collaboration and policy discourse.
