Biographical Statement 

Nagah Albassiouny is a research intern at UNU-CRIS under the supervision of Glenn Rayp, Samuel Standaert, and Stijn Salden within the Economic and Political Interactions Cluster. She is currently pursuing the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Economics of Globalisation and European Integration (EGEI), delivered by a consortium including Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro (Italy), Ghent University (Belgium), Universidad de Cantabria (Spain), Université de Lille (France), University of Tartu (Estonia), and Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (Chile).

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Cairo University (Egypt) and has defended her thesis for a Master’s degree in Economics on The Impact of Digitalization on Labor Markets in Egypt, with the degree pending completion of administrative procedures. During her semester at Ghent University as part of the EGEI programme, she developed a strong interest in regional integration, which has become a central focus of her research, alongside digitalisation and labour economics.

Before joining EGEI, Nagah worked as a Teaching Assistant in Economics at the Modern Sciences and Arts University and Egypt University of Informatics. She also gained practical experience through internships at several governmental agencies in Egypt, including the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Egyptian Competition Authority, where she acquired insights into economic policy and competition regulation.

During her research internship at UNU-CRIS, Nagah is contributing to a project examining the determinants of the strength of regional organisations. She aspires to a professional career in research and teaching, with a particular focus on regional integration and its economic implications.
