Dr. Degli Uberti, Stefano
Stefano degli Uberti holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences and Literature from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Summa cum Laude) and a Master’s Degree in Anthropology of Development and Social Transformation from Sussex University (United Kingdom). He obtained a PhD in Anthropology and Epistemology of Complexity from University of Bergamo (Italy). During his doctoral studies, Stefano attended the CARIM Summer School on Euro-Mediterranean Migration and Development at the European University Institute (EUI). His PhD thesis examined, through an ethno-anthropological approach, the socio-economic transformations triggered in some urban areas of Senegal by the phenomenon of “pirogue migrations” to the Canary Islands. During his field research Stefano spent part of his studies at the Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire (IFAN) and the West African Research Association (WARC) in Dakar.
His area of research focussed on: social policies on labour migration (migrants’ rights; processes of integration and social inclusion); transnational perspective on migration (in particular between EU and Africa); Migration-Development nexus and processes of trans-Saharan migration.
Stefano also worked as a project assistant for an international development consulting firm in Brussels providing administrative and technical assistance to the implementation of RfSs issued by the DG EuropeAid. More recently, he collaborated as research consultant with the University of Parma on the following project funded by the European Integration Fund: “Interculture, Integration, Law. Intercultural cooperation, territorial administration and juridical praxis between police officers and migrant collectivities from non-EU countries”.
At UNU-CRIS, Stefano worked under the supervision of professor Bob Deacon and Mrs. Sonja Nita for a period of 6 months. He contributed in researching and assisting the activities linked to the UNESCO-UNU Chair in Regional Integration, Migration and Free Movement of People.
