Orynbassar, Sabit
Sabit Orynbassar is a research intern at UNU-CRIS, contributing to the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster under the supervision of Nidhi Nagabhatla along with Vijay Kumar Chattu. He is pursuing a Master’s degree in Global Health at the University of Bonn and the University Hospital of Bonn, supported by the DAAD-EPOS scholarship. He holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University and has prior academic and teaching experience at the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy.
His professional background includes teaching and supervising international medical students, assisting in scientific research projects, and contributing to the development of methodological manuals for medical education. In addition, he has authored peer-reviewed publications and actively participated in conferences on medicine, global health, and public health policy. He also served as a Youth Immunization Advocate with the World Health Organization in Kazakhstan, where he promoted health awareness and vaccination campaigns.
During his research internship at UNU-CRIS, Sabit will primarily work on the interlinkages of climate change, migration, and health in the Aral Sea region. His tasks will include literature review, data synthesis, and policy analysis, with a focus on how environmental degradation affects health outcomes and drives migration in Central Asia. He will contribute to the preparation of reports and policy briefs that integrate science and policy perspectives within UNU-CRIS’s Nature, Climate and Health portfolio.
Through this work, Sabit aims to strengthen his expertise in interdisciplinary global health research, enhance his skills in science–policy communication, and support the development of knowledge products that inform governance and policy responses to climate–health–migration challenges.
