Biographical Statement 

Sara Polo Morcillo is a research intern at UNU-CRIS. She holds a Master in European Economic Studies from the College of Europe, and a Bachelor in International Business from Pompeu Fabra University with an exchange at Singapore Management University. Since the beginning of her academic career, she has focused particularly on trade, specifically between the EU and Asia. Sara is currently an Accredited Parliamentary Assistant at the European Parliament, where she advises on public policy regarding International Trade and Transport matters.

Previously, she provided public policy support at the same institution as a Trainee and as a Visiting Student. She also volunteered at the European Youth Parliament and Understanding Europe Spain. Passionate about international trade within the EU framework and beyond, Sara is the winner of the 2024 UNU-CRIS Best Thesis Award at the College of Europe for her thesis entitled Are Bilateral Investment Treaties Substitutes for Cross-Border Trade? Implications for the Comprehensive Agreement on Investment.

At UNU-CRIS, Sara will work under the supervision of Glenn Rayp and Philippe De Lombaerde within the Economic Interactions Cluster. Sara will primarily work on evolving her Master thesis into a working paper to be published in the UNU-CRIS Working Paper Series and work with other Economic Interactions and Regional Integration Knowledge System clusters.
