Biographical Statement

Sebrin Abdullahi is a research intern at UNU-CRIS within the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster under the supervision of Nidhi Nagabhatla. She is a DAAD scholar who recently completed a Master’s in Global Health Risk Management and Hygiene Policies at the University of Bonn, Germany.

During her (virtual) research internship, Sebrin will investigate the nexus of climate change, migration, and health in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on how gender dynamics shape vulnerabilities and resilience in this context. Her work will analyse how environmental stressors and forced mobility interact to impact both physical and psychosocial health, and how policy and institutional frameworks respond to these challenges.

As a medical doctor originally trained in Ethiopia, she brings clinical expertise and regional perspective to her research, enabling a deeper exploration of the health implications of climate-induced migration. By integrating medical knowledge with interdisciplinary global health approaches, she aims to shed light on the pathways through which climate and water crises influence migration and health, while identifying opportunities for more inclusive and sustainable responses in the region.
