Abstract:

In recent years, facing irregular migration has become a priority for the European Union, representing both a test to her integration level and internal consistency as well as to her external actorness. This work delves on how the matter has moulded relations between the EU, member states and North African countries (Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Mauritania). The choice to insert Mauritania in this study is telling, in that the state has become a main transit country for migrants en route to Europe.
