Biographical Statement 

Alessandra Santoianni obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Human Development at the Maastricht School of Governance in collaboration with UNU-MERIT. In her Master’s she specialised in Regional Integration and Multi-Level Governance. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs from the University of Bologna – Forlì Department. During her Bachelor she spent one year in Lille at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques where she focussed on European Law and European Foreign Policy.

In 2012 she worked as a policy intern at the Council of Europe Liaison Office with the European Union and in 2011 as a development intern for a students’ association in Brno, Czech Republic. Her research interests include: multi-level governance and regional integration, participatory governance in policy making, EU external policy and enlargement, justice and home affairs, human rights, security and organised crime.

At UNU-CRIS Alessandra was involved in the GR:EEN Project and worked under the supervision of Marieke Zwartjes and Francis Baert for a couple of months. She focussed her work on regional leadership on the one hand and transnational policy networks in human security on the other. At the same time she worked on her Master’s Thesis on EU policy making in the area of justice and home affairs.
