Els Bekaert is a PhD Fellow at UNU-CRIS since 1 November 2018.
Els is a Master’s student in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Economics of Globalisation and European Integration (EGEI) program. This degree granted her the opportunity to study a semester at the University of Antwerp, Université Lille 1 and the University of Economics (VSE) in Prague. She is originally from Belgium, where she obtained her Bachelor degree in Business Management at the Artevelde University College, with an Erasmus internship in London. At Ghent University she obtained her Master of Science in Business Administration majoring in Strategic Management, with an international internship in Shanghai. In her master’s year, she completed a thesis on the Determinants of Migration in Asia.
At UNU-CRIS her research focus is on migration, climate change, and regional integration, with a particular emphasis on the thesis subject which she is currently finishing on the Impact of Climate Change on Internal versus International Migration in and out of Asia in sight of obtaining her EGEI degree. She will be supervised by Professor Glenn Rayp until the end of September.
