Biographical Statement 

Maruša Veber obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. Her thesis on “The Role of International Regional Organizations in Securing Peace and Security in Africa” was proposed for the award of the United Nations Association of Slovenia. While studying, Maruša also pursued several extracurricular activities, such as participating in the Slovenian competition of law students and in the Competition in presentation of judgments of European Court for Human Rights.

Maruša also participated in a research project at University of Ljubljana, which was finished alongside a scientific article on the topic of International Organisations responses to the events in Arab spring and implementation of Responsibility to Protect. She wrote for the Legal Information Centre for NGOs in Slovenia and has also gained experiences in private sector while working in New Zealand.

At UNU-CRIS she worked under the supervision of Professor Ademola Abbas for a period of three months. Her focus areas included the relationship between UN and African regional organisations in the promotion of peace and security and implementation of the doctrine of Responsibility to Protect in African conflicts. Her further research interests lie in State Responsibility and International Human Rights law.
