UNU-CRIS co-organises the UNASUR Workshop on Measuring Progress of Regional Policies on Access to Medicines

28 April 2016 to 29 April 2016
Workshop
Rio de Janeiro

UNU-CRIS is co-organising with Southampton University the workshop on 'Measuring Progress of Regional Policies on Access to Medicines in UNASUR' that will be hosted at the South American Institute of Governance in Health (ISAGS) Headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This event will take place on 28 and 29 April.

The discussions will be centred on existing indicators to measure the progress of regional policies on access to medicines that were developed jointly with experts from the region last year. The workshop will also explore the possibility of advancing a pilot exercise to implement this toolkit of indicators under regional competence.

The toolkit is the result of a joint effort from a group of experts in the region who met at specific occasions to discuss the nature, characteristics and objectives of the indicators. These discussions were facilitated by UNU-CRIS, with support from the University of Southampton (England), and were part of a funded research project on "Poverty Reduction and Regional Integration: A comparative analysis of SADC and UNASUR Health Policies", which was supported by the Economic and Social Research Council of the United Kingdom.
