Biographical Statement 

Aidai Maksatbekova was a virtual Research intern at UNU-CRIS. Currently enrolled in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degree in Economics of Globalization and European Integration (EMJMD EGEI), she has cultivated a robust understanding of economic theories and policies in the EU and their global implications. Her academic journey has been marked by excellence, having achieved a summa cum laude distinction in BA Global Economics from the University of Central Asia (UCA).

During her studies under the EMJMD EGEI, she has been exposed to a diverse and comprehensive curriculum that delves deep into the intricacies of European economic policies by both living and studying at several prestigious universities in the EU countries – University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy; University of Ghent, Belgium; and University of Tartu, Estonia.

In her previous roles as a Research Intern at ConsumerCentrix (CCX) and UCA, she had the opportunity to apply her theoretical knowledge in a practical context. Working on diverse projects, she developed strong research, analytical, problem-solving, and writing skills, delivering insights that contributed to the organizations’ objectives. Additionally, her experience as a Teaching Assistant for the International Economics course at UCA enhanced her organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.

During her internship at UNU-CRIS, Aidai focused on the effectiveness of economic sanctions by analyzing the relevant literature, theoretical models, data, and methodology used in empirical models. She worked under the supervision of Glenn Rayp as part of the Economic Interactions' Cluster.
