During a research seminar, organised by the research platform (AOP) “Orthopedagogical research in context”, the department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy and UNU-CRIS, prof. dr. Nino Shatberashvili gives a lecture on “Developments in social welfare in Georgia”.

The seminar takes place on Monday, 13 May 2024 starting at 14.00 at leslokaal 0.1 at the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogical Sciences, Ghent University (Henri Dunantlaan 1, 9000 Gent).

During the lecture, Prof. Shatberashvili will elaborate on the following topics:

  • Social Work Profession, Practice and Social Work Service
  • University Profile and SW in Academia
  • Challenges and Possibilities for Development

Nino has a PhD in social work and is an associate professor at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, leading MA program in Social Work at the faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Nino is a founder and board member of the Social Work Club, co-founder and board member of the Georgian Association of Social Workers.

Nino is teaching micro and macro-level social work courses at the university (Social Welfare Policy: Social Work Perspective; Social Advocacy; International Social Welfare; International Social Work; Social Work Practice; Work with Children and Families; Evaluation of Social Work Services). She has conducted several studies in the areas of social welfare and social inclusion. Nino Shatberashvili has contributed to the development of social work academic programs in Georgia at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Ilia State University. Nino Shatberashvili is the author and co-author of five and thematic editor of four books, author of several scientific articles.

Nino has diverse professional and working experience in state as well as non-state sector, local and international organizations. Nino Shatberashvili has consultancy experience in UN organizations and EU Projects.
