Research Project: Position and role of social work with vulnerable groups in Ethiopia

In the research program on ‘Migration & Social Policy’, an online internship position is available to support a short research project on the role of Social Work in Ethiopia.

The main task concerns document analyses and expert interviews to present a picture of its history, current focus and understanding of the discipline, challenges, influences and contributions. Particular attention will be paid to a contextualize the role of social work in (forced) migration and its engagement with national, regional and international organizations working on the issue.

This will be done in collaboration with other UNU-CRIS researchers working in the field of support for forced migrants in Ethiopia.

 

Profile, Required Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Is enrolled in a Master in Social Work or has equivalent experiences in social work in Ethiopia -
    • An applicant should not hold any faculty position during this internship. 
  • Knowledge of the field of Social Work in Ethiopia;
  • Sufficient English reading, writing and speaking skills
  • Sufficient analytic writing skills
  • Regularly attend online meetings

Remuneration

Internships are remunerated at a rate based on the applicant's country of residence, as per the UNDP Stipend Rate. 

 

Duration of Contract

These positions are available on three- or six-month terms.

Position Two

Research project: The role of regional actors and agreements in the governance of displacement in Ethiopia

In the research program on ‘Migration & Social Policy, an online internship position is available to support the role of regional actors/policies in responses to internal displacement in Ethiopia.

The main task concerns document analyses and expert interviews to investigate whether or when Ethiopian actors rely on or mobilize regional narratives on IDPs. This will be done in collaboration with other UNU-CRIS researchers working in the field of internal displacement.

 

Profile, Required Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Is enrolled in a Master in Governance and Development Studies;
    • An applicant should not hold any faculty position during this internship. 
  • Knowledge of dynamics of (forced) migration in Ethiopia; knowledge of national, regional and international processes and actors in migration governance
  • Sufficient English reading, writing and speaking skills
  • Sufficient analytic writing skills
  • Regularly attend online meetings
