Abstract: 

This chapter aims to draw attention to the impact of perceptions in international politics by focusing on how political leaders, civil society groups and other opinion makers view the EU in a selection of emerging powers, including China, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and South Africa. The analysis looks at several policy domains, from democracy-building and multilateralism to economic policies, and devotes particular attention to the perceptions of the EU in the field of bilateral/international trade and climate change negotiations.
