Mauritius: The Making of a Developmental African State

There are many lessons and directions that can be drawn from the Mauritian experience. To begin with, this chapter first briefly considers the island’s history. Against this background, we then discuss the change in international regimes towards developing countries, including Mauritius. The country’s historical development and growth is reviewed focusing on the role of trade and trade policy in making of this small island African developmental state such a success.
