De Maeyer, Nele
Nele De Maeyer was a research intern at UNU-CRIS. She holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Philosophy from KU Leuven, a Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Management from the Université de Liège, and recently graduated with an Advanced Master's Degree in Global Health from Ghent University.
Throughout her educational career, Nele has developed a strong interest in the interconnectedness of climate change, the environment, and human health. This interest culminated in her master's dissertation for her degree in Global Health that researched the psychosocial impact of flash floods in Belgium.
During her internship at UNU-CRIS, Nele worked under the supervision of Charlotte Scheerens and Nidhi Nagabhatla within the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster to further investigate the impact of extreme weather events on mental health and psychosocial well-being. This research was crucial to fill knowledge gaps in the pressing issue of climate change and health, an area of increasing urgency. Her internship was made possible with the support of the Flanders Trainee Programme.
