MEDRC Stabilization Mechanism Project Webinar

For peace process practitioners, transboundary water presents a broad array of potential international peace initiatives and provides an opportunity where many innovative peacebuilding and mediation mechanisms can be implemented. The success of these mechanisms depends on the ongoing dialogue between core parties to a conflict (or potential conflict); joint core party analysis, governance, and decision-making; effective links between technical and diplomatic actors on all sides, and a possibility to adapt various approaches and initiatives to fit the stage of conflict.

In the Stabilization Mechanism Webinar Series, MEDRC invites expert speakers to help unpack and look critically at a few themes that have emerged within the 'environmental diplomacy' field to develop informed practical insights for mechanisms operating in transboundary environmental cooperation and diplomacy. For the first webinar in the series, experts will present examples and case studies where institutional mechanisms have strengthened or limited inter-state cooperation on transboundary waters. Specific attention will be placed on what institutional factors have enabled resilient inter-state cooperation.
