UNU-CRIS at SISP 2022 Conference in Rome, Italy
On 8 September 2022, Jamal Shahin, Frank Mattheis, Nadia Tjahja, Orsolya Gulyas, Sophie Hoogenboom and Mauro Santaniello represented UNU-CRIS at the SISP 2022 Conference of the Department of Political Sciences Sapienza Università di Roma in Rome, Italy.
Under the moderation of UNU-CRIS Visiting Research Fellow Dr. Mauro Santaniello, Sophie Hoogenboom presented her research paper Roles in the Digital Space: Symbolic Interactionist Role Theory and Norms of Sovereignty at the Digital Sovereignty panel session.
Another contribution to the discussion on Digital Sovereignty was made by Riccardo Nanni, UNU-CRIS PhD Fellow Nadia Tjahja and Roman Baiduk, with their study on Unpacking digital sovereignty: strategic narratives from China, the European Union, and Russia.
UNU-CRIS PhD Fellow Orsolya Gulyas took part in the second Digital Sovereignty panel with a paper The sovereigntist turn in digital policymaking through the lens of the ‘competitiveness’ discourse, in which she uses an Arendtian framework of analysis. Jamal Shanin, the coordinator of the Digital Governance cluster at UNU-CRIS, shared his expertise on digital sovereignty as a discussant.
Frank Mattheis, UNU-CRIS Research Fellow and coordinator of the Re-LAB research programme, opened the sixth-panel session on the Regional Policy in the Global South with a paper Explaining variation in regional agency: why do regional organisations react differently to member states not fulfilling their financial obligations?
The participants could benefit from the keen discussions on some of the topical issues of political science.
