LECTURE by the Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States: OACPS: Which Role in a Changing World?

24 November 2022
Lecture
Bruges

The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) exists and operates in a multi-polar and interconnected world, which is undergoing fundamental geopolitical changes and alignments.  As the world is still coming to terms with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, other interlinked challenges have mounted – climate change, conflict, security, food and energy scarcity, as well as economic/financial crises.

A full recovery from COVID-19 had not occurred, before the arrival of a new shock in the form of conflict, which has undoubtedly damaged international relations, enhanced concerns over national security, and undermined the legitimacy of globalisation.

Within this context, how does the OACPS manifest its relevance on the global scene, demonstrate that the Organisation brings added value to its Members and that it continues to be an important voice for the global south?  These and other questions are to be addressed by the presentation of the Secretary-General of the OACPS.
