Patricia del Castaño Portillo was a PhD Fellow at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), under Professor Leire Moure's supervision. Her research focused on analysing how the process of securitisation of disinformation has been pursued in the European Union. She holds a Master in International Studies (2021) from the same University, and a Bachelor's degree in Advertising and Public Relations with a special mention in Communication Management (2020).

During her visiting research fellowship at UNU-CRIS, she worked within the Digital Governance Cluster. Patricia primarily work ed on EU responses to the challenge of disinformation and its potential for developing a distinctive methodological contribution to comparative regionalism studies on this issue.
