UNU-CRIS contributes to the Lloyd's Register Foundation Foresight Review on Nature-positive Engineering in the London Roundtable

30 January 2025

UNU-CRIS contributes to the Lloyd's Register Foundation Foresight Review on Nature-positive Engineering by participating in the London Roundtable on January 30, 2025. This contribution aligns with UNU-CRIS's expertise in the governance of sustainable development and nature-based solutions, particularly in the context of cities and urban infrastructure. Dr. Nidhi Nagabhatla, who is now chairing the UN-led interface PEDRR (https://pedrr.org/), will reflect on the activities steered by PEDRR and will highlight the importance of nature-based solutions (NBS) in urban planning, especially for rapidly urbanizing mid-sized cities.

  1. Sharing insights on the Windows of Opportunity (WOI) framework and its application to urban initiatives to just transition.
  2. Emphasizing the need for place-based strategies that integrate urban engineering into nature-positive planning and adaptation initiatives.
  3. Discussing the potential of Eco-DRR to implement innovative NbS approaches, leveraging local strengths and knowledge of disaster risk governance.
  4. Addressing the challenges and opportunities for implementing nature-positive engineering in resource-constrained urban environments in the Global South .

UNU-CRIS's participation will contribute valuable perspectives on nature-positive engineering helping to broaden the scope of the Foresight Review.
