UNU-CRIS Digital Governance Cluster participates in EuroDIG 2023

19 June 2023

The European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) is the regional European event of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which brings together stakeholders from government, international organisations, private sector, civil society and citizens together to discuss the future of the Internet. It is held annually in a different European city, and is hosted this year at Tampere University in Finland. Digital Governance Cluster Co-Coordinator Nadia Tjahja and Ph.D. Fellow Sophie Hoogenboom will be the moderators of this event.

This year’s 16th edition is themed “Internet in troubled times: risk, resilience, hope”, and will look at three main topics that are currently emerging issues and challenges concerning the Internet in a difficult world situation, but also highlights the hopes. The main themes of the vent are the effects of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the fragmentation of the Internet, and the problems of platforms and social media that have risen to power.

Nadia Tjahja, Ph.D. Fellow of the UNU-CRIS Digital Governance Cluster is part of the organising team and is the main host of the event. Sophie Hoogenboom, also Ph.D. fellow of the cluster, will be the host for the workshops rooms. To open the Youth Dialogue on Internet Governance (YOUthDIG), the youth pre-event bringing together youth from the pan-European continent to exchange on how the Internet impacts their communities, Co-coordinator Professor Dr. Jamal Shanin gave a lecture to provide an Introduction to Internet Governance. During the conference, Tjahja will present her upcoming publication on a “Decade of Youth Participation” at the NRI Assembly on Youth for sustainable IG(F) with State Secretary Gunn Karin Gjul from the Norwegian Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development giving the introductory speech- It will be followed by the session on “Nurturing Digital Well-being: Addressing the Impact of the Digital Environment on Youth Mental Health”, which is the first out of a series of sessions organised by youth coordinators globally as part of the IGF 2023 Youth Track, of which Tjahja is a contributor. These two sessions will take place on 19 June, 2.00-3.30 pm (EEST/-UTC +3).
