18 June 2024

Nidhi Nagabhatla will present her work contribution on UN Decade for Ecological Restoration at the Nature-based Solutions Conference 2024, at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History taking place from 18 until 20 June 2024.

A full programme of talks and activities is available here.

Nidhi Nagabhatla's talk is entitled: Can the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) Steer the Nature-Based Solutions discourse?

The UN Decade work led by UNEP and FAO with the support of institutional partners, UNU CRIS included, aims to revitalize degraded ecosystems globally, benefiting both people and nature. Key initiatives include the 'Global Capacity Needs Assessment,' identifying essential skills for restoration, and the 'Standards of Practice,' outlining ten principles for successful projects. The 'Capacity, Knowledge, and Learning Action Plan' integrates restoration knowledge into education, highlights the role of Indigenous Peoples and proposes initiatives to bridge knowledge gaps. These efforts align with the SDGs and provide communities with tools to prevent, halt, and reverse ecosystem degradation by embarking on existing pathways like Nature Based Solutions.
