Workshop on Challenges and Progress: Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals
On 16 October at 14.00, UNU-CRIS will host a workshop on the Sustainable Development Goals, the progress made so far and the challenges related to their implementation. There will be two main speakers: Jan Vandemoortele and Peter Wollaert.
Jan Vandemoortele has been crucial in the establishment of the Millennium Development Goals. He has been Director of the Poverty Group at UNDP and has served in various other capacities with the United Nations for over 30 years, both at headquarters and in the field – with UNICEF, UNDP, the ILO and on loan to the World Bank. His last position was as UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator to Pakistan. He is a Belgian citizen and holds a PhD. in Development Economics. He is a member of various advisory groups, including to the UN Secretary-General.
Peter Wollaert is the current Managing Director of CIFAL Flanders, a UNITAR affiliated International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders, part of the CIFAL Global Network composed of 18 CIFALs across the globe. He was formerly the director of the social profit organisation Kauri (now The Shift), which during his tenure became the largest network for corporate social responsibility in Belgium. In 2012 he became a lecturer in business ethics and corporate social responsibility at Vlerick Business School in Ghent and Leuven and in August 2013 he was also appointed as manager of the Vlerick Forum for Social Entrepreneurship. In October 2013 he was appointed Associated Fellow of UNITAR in Geneva. In February 2018 he was elected chairman of the United Nations Association Flanders Belgium.
The workshop will consist of two lectures, discussion and possibilities for informal exchanges during a small reception.
