Remembering Caroline Pauwels

All of us at UNU-CRIS are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Caroline Pauwels. The universal outpouring of emotion and dismay at her passing speaks volumes about the person she was, and the legacy she leaves.

Caroline was an exceptional friend to UNU-CRIS, and to some of us personally. She was instrumental in the creation of the first MoU between Flanders, UNU, the VUB and Ghent University in 2016, demonstrating her firm commitment to the necessity of bringing people together to generate knowledge that makes the world a better place.

Ultimately, it can be said that she did just that, leaving a positive mark and inspiring many to better themselves and the world we live in. She was eternally optimistic, charismatic, committed to her ideals, and a role model.

She will be greatly missed but will remain a source of inspiration, and a guiding light for all those wanting better, for themselves, for others, for us all.
