UNU CRIS’s Nature Climate and Health Cluster Support Regional (Baltic) European Commission Funded Initiative
Dr. Nidhi Nagabhatla will present a keynote address titled ‘"Advancing Ecosystem Restoration for Climate Adaptation: Unleashing Nature-Based Solutions in Urban Planning and SDG Implementation" at the international workshop “Planning and operationalizing green infrastructure and ecosystem service concepts for improving urban climate resilience” held on 13-14 June ( Rīga, Latvia) organized in the frame of LIFE LATESTadapt project: ‘Developing and demonstrating a portfolio of nature-based and smart solutions for improving urban climate resilience in Latvia and Estonia’ supported by the European Commission.
Based on her research on the topic and reflecting on UNU CRIS’s engagement with the global governance agenda the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. She will highlight how UNU CRIS is contributing to and supporting the activities of the Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR)- a global alliance of UN agencies, NGOs, and subject specialists. In particular their agenda of ‘Protecting People from Disasters Through Nature-based Solutions’ provides EU and Global North and South-focused examples of how Nature-based Solutions can help build resilience to disasters and climate change impacts and showcases Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on ‘Nature-based Solutions for Disaster and Climate Resilience’.
