UNU-CRIS is Participating in International Conference on Green Economy in Central Asia
The paper abstract by Sabit Orynbassar, Nidhi Nagabhatla, Vijay Kumar Chattu from the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster at UNU-CRIS got accepted and will be part of the agenda for the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Current Issues of the Transition to a Green Economy in Central Asia."
This conference will take place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 17 February 2026.
Title of the paper is Building evidence-based strategies for health resilience and climate adaptation in the Aral Sea region within Central Asia's green economy transition.
Abstract of the paper:
Central Asia's shift towards a sustainable, green economy necessitates addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and public health vulnerability. The Aral Sea catastrophe exemplifies this complex challenge. Once the world's fourth-largest inland body of water, it has nearly disappeared as a result of unsustainable water management practices, leading to severe climate and health crises including dust storms, salinization, water shortages, and an increase in respiratory and cardiovascular diseases among affected populations.
